Bluebyrd are a modern folk duo based in the West Midlands. We formed in 2017 and feature Chris Rowley on guitar and vocals and Gareth Pask on keyboards.
If you like original music that’s from the heart, delivered with energy and passion then we’re the band for you! Although our music is rooted in the folk tradition with a love of Dylan, Paul Simon and Nick Drake ever present in our sound, we have been described as alternative-folk and even urban folk, with keen-eared listeners hearing the likes of Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, REM, The Waterboys and even some of those edgy new wave acts from the late 70s in our work. Our songs navigate the modern urban landscape, that strikes a chord with the audience. From our up tempo stompers to our reflective laments, we aim to keep hearts a flutter and feet a tapping.
We’ve released two very well received albums that are available on all the digital platforms, and on CD, via our 'Merch' page or via Bandcamp . Our debut album 'Uneven Ground' was described by Ryan's Gig Guide as 'a stunning debut' and by A&R Factory as ‘ a beautiful slice of modern acoustic folk.’
Our second album 'Find Your Way' again received high praise. ‘This is a superb album.’ Ryan's Gig Guide - album of the month April 2020 . ‘This album shows off the masterful songwriting skills Bluebyrd have to offer’ Music Underground.
We were also chuffed to bits that we have been recognised by both community and national radio with extensive airplay across the country including on the BBC. Our live and studio work has also received nominations for the Radio Wigwam Awards and the Black Country Music Awards.
The live performance is what we relish and we have played at many prestigious festivals and venues across the Midlands and the North West including Alsager Music Festival, Leek Blues & Americana Festival, Audlem Festival, Percy's Cafe Bar, Claptrap the Venue, The Robin 2 amongst others. We have also been chosen as the support act for renowned US blues singer and guitarist Alvin Youngblood Heart and chart topping band The Christians when they come to The Robin 2 in 2022.
If you want us to play at your venue, in your garden or even in your kitchen we’d be happy to oblige! We can play short sets of 20 minutes right through to 1 1/2 hours. We can also supply a small PA and have public liability insurance.
